Francis Scott Key Bridge Architectural Lighting
The Francis Scott Key Bridge was completed in 1923 to span the Potomac River, connecting Georgetown in Washington, DC, to Rosslyn in Arlington County, Virginia. This Classical Revival-styled bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1996.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing lighting improvements to enhance nighttime views and accentuate the bridge’s unique architectural features. The lighting would be installed on the bridge’s underside and would be separate from the existing lights on the bridge surface.
